Course Description
This continuing education unit presents a case study of a young learner who began services at 2 years 9 months and demonstrated significant language growth following intervention guided by the Verbal Behavior Milestones Assessment and Placement Program (VB-MAPP). Participants will review assessment results, examine how goals were selected, and analyze the behavior intervention strategies—including extinction-based procedures—that supported skill acquisition. Emphasis is placed on data-based decision making, early language development, and practical clinical application.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
Describe how VB-MAPP results inform goal selection for early learners.
Identify foundational verbal behavior targets for young children with delayed language.
Explain how extinction-based procedures can be used to reduce problem behavior.
Describe how functional communication is incorporated into behavior plans.
Analyze how data and reassessment guide treatment modifications.
