Reinforcement is a foundational component of behavior-analytic treatment, but effective reinforcement involves more than simply providing a preferred item after a response. This training reviews what reinforcement actually means, common misconceptions about reinforcement, and how RBTs can evaluate whether a consequence is truly increasing behavior.Participants will explore the difference between preferred items and reinforcers, factors that influence reinforcer effectiveness, and common implementation errors that can reduce the quality of reinforcement. Practical scenarios and visual activities will be used to help participants identify effective reinforcement practices and recognize when reinforcement may need to be reassessed.
Learning Objectives
-
Define reinforcement based on its effect on future behavior.
-
Identify common myths and misconceptions about reinforcement.
-
Differentiate between a preferred item and a demonstrated reinforcer.
-
Identify variables that may affect the value of a reinforcer.
