While AAC devices provide an essential means of communication for individuals with speech delays or impairments, they must be used beyond simple requests (mands) to develop well-rounded verbal skills. This CEU event is designed for behavior analysts, speech-language pathologists (SLPs), educators, and caregivers who work with individuals using AAC and want to expand their verbal repertoires.

Participants will explore how to systematically teach verbal operants (mands, tacts, echoics, intraverbals, and listener responding) through AAC-based instruction, ensuring that users develop functional, flexible, and socially meaningful language skills.

How to teach verbal operants beyond mands using AAC, including tacting (labeling), echoics, intraverbals (conversation), and listener responding.
Strategies for pairing AAC use with speech production to promote natural language development.
Evidence-based techniques to generalize AAC-based verbal skills across different environments and social settings.
How to model and prompt verbal responses using AAC to build expressive and receptive communication skills.
