This CEU event explores Habit Reversal Training (HRT) as a behavior-change strategy that aligns with the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). Commonly used to reduce repetitive and automatically reinforced behaviors such as eyelash pulling, nail biting, and skin picking, HRT includes components like awareness training, competing response training, and reinforcement procedures — all of which are behaviorally based and data-driven.
Participants will examine the theoretical foundations of HRT, review empirical support from behavioral literature, and learn how to implement its core components within the context of ABA service delivery. The session will highlight practical applications for supervising RBTs, teaching them how to carry out HRT procedures effectively and ethically while maintaining treatment fidelity.
Through real-world examples and case discussion, this session will also address strategies for data collection, monitoring progress, and generalization across settings. Attendees will leave with a clear understanding of how to incorporate HRT into function-based treatment plans and support clients with behaviors maintained by automatic reinforcement.
